WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW
City officials, along with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, will hold a public involvement meeting to discuss the location, design and environmental aspects of proposed changes to the Hwy. 52/Bus. Hwy. 51 route through downtown Wausau.
The proposed improvement will reroute Hwy. 52 at McIndoe Street to follow 5th Street to Scott Street. In addition, Bus. Hwy. 51 will be rerouted at Scott Street to First Street, according to a city of Wausau news release. The route change is being proposed to make way for a $40 million downtown development.
The right of way is owned by the city but the Wisconsin Department of Transportation has jurisdictional control over the roadway. City leaders have received numerous communications from local businesses and residents supporting the plan including a letter signed by more than two dozen local business leaders endorsing the project and supporting the associated road closure.
The open house meeting is set for 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24 at City Hall, 407 Grant St., Wausau, with a brief presentation at 5:30 p.m.
Adjacent property owners and all interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend the public meeting to learn more about the proposed project and provide input, city officials said. Project maps and other information will be on display and city staff will be available to explain the proposed improvements, answer questions and take comments.
The meeting will be conducted open-house style. A brief presentation is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
