WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

TOWN OF BARTELME, Wis. — Two people are facing multiple felony charges in connection with a stabbing that sent a 29-year-old woman to the hospital.

Crystall M. Malone, 34, and John J. Waubanascum, 46, both of Bowler, each face felony charges of reckless injury with a dangerous weapon, armed robbery and false imprisonment, according to court documents.

Stockbridge-Munsee officers responded at about 1 a.m. Sunday to a report of a stabbing at a residence on National Guard Road in the town of Bartelme. The alleged victim told police she had been stabbed multiple times and had a blood-soaked towel on her head, according to the criminal complaint.

Police say the kitchen floor was covered in blood and there were obvious signs of a struggle.

The alleged victim told investigators that Malone and Waubanascum were at the residence with her when an argument about money broke out and quickly turned violent. Malone is accused of stabbing the woman twice, while Waubanascum allegedly stabbed her once, leaving her with injuries to the face and head and preventing her from calling police until she escaped through a back door. The couple was arrested at their Bowler home and taken to the Shawano County Jail, where they remain in custody.

Malone is being held on a $10,000 cash bond and is due in court June 3 for an initial appearance. Waubanascum, who has a pending case for failure to report to jail, was ordered held o a $20,000 cash bond and is due back in court on May 29.

Each suspect faces a maximum 71 years in the Wisconsin Prison System if they are convicted on all counts.
