Gerald “Jerry” Wunsch, Sr.

Jerry Wunsch, 69, of Wausau, passed away at Aspirus Wausau Hospital on May 23, 2019.

Mercedes Powers

Mercedes T. Powers, age 96, of Hayward, WI passed away on May 16 2019 at home with her family by her side.

Mercedes was born in Blue Island, Il on May 9, 1923 to the late Edward and Clara (Benzing) Sieben. She married Roy Powers while he was in the service during World War II. Together, Roy and Mercedes lived in Palos Heights, IL prior to their purchase of Sunrise Resort on Big Round Lake in Hayward, Wi. They operated the resort from 1972 until 1986 when they sold and built a house next door.

Mercedes enjoyed meeting new people every summer and stayed friends with many throughout the years. They would vacation during the winter for a month with other resort friends in Alabama after the children were grown. After the sale of the resort they traveled extensively throughout the United States.

Mercedes was an avid reader, enjoyed fishing, being a grandmother and loved being surrounded by nature. Most importantly she enjoyed the family visits from her children, grandchildren and other relatives.

Mercedes is survived by her children Linda Matias of Wausau, WI and her children Thomas, John and Dawn; Terry (Mary) Powers, of Hudson, WI and their children Crystal, Gregory, Naomi and Ashley; Sharee Powers of Weston, WI and her children Joseph and Rebecca; Debra Longly of Winter, WI and her children Sarah and Timothy; Jamie (Kevin) Garcia (granddaughter) of Naperville, IL; brother Edward Sieben of Palos Heights, Il; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy W, son Roy C and sister Claudia Welter.

A memorial service will be held in Wausau, WI area on July 13th 2019.


Robert Towns

Robert F. Towns, 88, Waupaca, died Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Theda Care Appleton. Robert was born November 24, 1930 to the late John and Esther (Keller) Towns in Mt. Morris, IL. He married Valderine Burroughs on December 31, 1950 in Neenah. She preceded him in death on November 26, 2001.

Robert served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Survivors include his five children, Robert W. (Glory) Towns, Auburndale, FL, Cathy Black, Green Bay, Sandra (Dennis) Dark, Little Chute, Terry Towns, Wautoma and John Towns, Appleton; twelve grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jim and John Towns. Besides his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by his daughter, Valerie and his brother Tom.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at First Assembly of God Church 1420 Berlin St., Waupaca. Rev. Cliff Cameron will officiate. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Burial will be at Central Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery at King. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home Wausau is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for a donation to a charity of their choice.
