Wausau-area volunteer opportunities: Week of Aug. 12

Food Delivery for Senior Neighbors. Faith in Action is looking for volunteers to pick up food items from The Neighbors’ Place in Wausau and make deliveries to elderly neighbors in the area. Deliveries are on Wednesdays every two weeks in the morning. Contact Jamie at 715-848-8783.

Help People Begin a New Chapter.  The Open Door of Marathon County meets needs of individuals leaving incarceration. Caring volunteers provide assistance with clothing, housing / job searches and Foodshare. Times available:  5am-Noon Monday through Friday and 5am-10am on weekends.  Contact Sarah, Christina or Anne at 715-848-4044 or opendoor319@gmail.com.

Turkey Trot Volunteers. Come out on Thanksgiving Day and be a part of the Tenth Eastbay Turkey Trot event that supports the Marathon County Hunger Coalition. A variety of volunteer roles are available.  The biggest need is for Course Marshalls along the route. Volunteer Screener for American Red Cross.  Talk to potential volunteers to determine the best role for them during disaster and ongoing regular emergency support in the community.  Contact Lee at lee.borofka@redcross.org, if you are interested in recruiting for Red Cross.

Be a Reading Buddy. Nurture the love of reading as you read to children over the lunch hour at Mosinee, Marathon and Edgar Elementary school locations beginning in October 2019. Application and training process will be provided in September. Polyester Fiberfill for Stuffed Animals. At Heartland Hospice, Memory Bears are made in remembrance of loved ones from sentimental clothing that belonged to them. If you have fiberfill to donate, please contact Amanda at 715-344-4541 or email amanda.cottrell@hcr-manorcare.com.

Personal Care Items.  The Women’s Community residents are always grateful for toilet paper, paper towels, body wash, razors and new towels and washcloths. Contact Jessica at 715-842-5663 or Jessica@womenscommunity.org if you have a donation to make.

New Adult Bike Helmets. Trishaws are being seen around town, giving seniors rides. Safety is important and two adult helmets are needed. Contact Halle at cwa.marathoncounty@gmail.com  or 715-573-3192 if you can help with this donation need.
