Rescue crews responded Monday afternoon to a seven-vehicle crash in the southbound lane of I-39, where one vehicle reportedly caught fire.
Multiple units were called to the scene of the crash at about 1:44 p.m. Monday by the Hwy. 52 parkway ramp. Several lanes are blocked, according to witnesses.
As of 1:48 p.m., one vehicle was engulfed in flames and heavy holiday traffic is backed up for several miles.
Only one person was injured in the crash and was transported to a local hospital.
Police say several citations will be issued for cars following too closely to one another in the chain reaction crash.
