Four months after Wausau’s Riverlife Park officially opened, efforts are underway to replace the turf — at no cost to the city.

Wausau and Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry Director Jamie Polley said the repairs are necessary because the turf material, which was installed in the spring, failed and was pulling apart.

“This is a product defect and covered under warranty,” Polley wrote, in an email to Wausau Pilot and Review. “There is no cost to the city for this replacement and the new turf will come with an eight-year warranty.”

The roughly $4.7 million park, located at 1400 N. River Dr. on the city’s east riverfront, opened in late June.
