City leaders this week will consider raising the mayor’s annual salary from $74,851 to $78,873.60 — a roughly 5.7 percent increase — starting with the next term of office.

In addition to earned salary, Wausau’s mayor also receives retirement, health and dental benefits along with a $350-per-month auto allowance. The salary bump is being recommended following a salary survey by the Human Resources Department, at the request of the Human Resources Committee, that found the average salary for full-time mayors in Wisconsin to be $78,857.

The matter is being presented as a joint resolution of the finance and human resources committees.

The finance committee will discuss the resolution during a meeting at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday in council chambers at City Hall, 407 Grant St., Wausau.
