Wausau City Clerk Toni Rayala will step down from her role Nov. 20, after nine years with the city of Wausau.
A Wausau native, Rayala will move on to a position with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
The change comes at a crucial time for Wausau, with elections just months away. In addition to maintaining public records and attesting to actions taken by the city council, the clerk administers election law and procedures and maintains voter registration information. The clerk also participates in redistricting boundaries following a federal census, which is set to take place in 2020.
Other duties include providing administrative services to the council, maintaining agendas and minutes; preparing publication of legal notices; responding to open records requests; issuing various licenses and permits; sale of maps, bus passes and city promotional items; and collection of city revenues including: tax payments, water/sewer utility payments, court fines, parking tickets, license and permit fees, and accounts receivable. He or she must be familiar with adopted resolutions, municipal ordinances, policies, procedures and a multitude of local, state and federal laws dealing with municipal services, according to a job description posted on the city’s official page.
Rayala announced her departure at the close of the council’s Nov. 12 meeting. Mayor Rob Mielke thanked her for her service.
