The Marathon County Sheriff’s Department is urging caution during Tuesday’s morning commute after responding to a high number of crashes.

Specifically, Hwy. 51 in the area of CTH NN and CTH N is affected, officials say.

“The roadway is experiencing precipitation in this specific area and the roadway has areas of black ice,” Sheriff’s officials said in a Facebook post. “Please exercise caution, slow down, and maintain adequate distance between your vehicle and other vehicles when entering this area and expect to encounter black ice conditions.”

Hwy. 51 and I-39 is experiencing significant slowdown due to the crashes and treacherous conditions. Police are asking motorists to allow extra time for the morning commute.

The Marathon County Highway Department is responding to this area to address the black ice issues.
