One person is dead following a high speed chase that ended in a crash, prompting the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation to launch an investigation into the incident.

Few details have been released about the crash, which happened Sunday morning in Two Rivers.

DCI officials say Manitowoc County Sheriff’s deputies were trying to stop a vehicle traveling “at a high rate of speed” when the vehicle left the roadway and crashed.

Officers on the scene attempted to save the driver, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.

One Manitowoc Co. deputy has been placed on administrative leave, per department policy.

No other specific information has been released.

DCI is continuing to collect evidence and determine the facts of this incident, which is standard protocol in officer-involved deaths. Investigative reports will be submitted to the Manitowoc County District Attorney when the investigation is complete.
