Police in Clark County say a man with a medical condition is hospitalized after he led police on a high speed chase that started on Hwy. 10 and ended after the man drove through Neillsville.
According to a Clark County Sheriff’s Department news release, the chase began just before noon on Friday after deputies investigated a disabled vehicle. The driver, a 56-year-old man from Illinois, allegedly fled from police and was traveling at speeds topping 100 mph, sometimes into incoming traffic.
The driver, whose name has not been released, ran over spike strips just before entering Neillsville but continued on through the city at a high rate of speed until his tires deflated, police said.
But after about 10 minutes the driver, who did not respond to verbal commands to exit his vehicle, tried to drive away again, police said. Officers used a PIT maneuver to force the man to stop.
The driver was transported to a hospital for a medical evaluation and is in custody, police said.
The nature of the man’s medical condition was not released.
