Snow has moved out of the Wausau area but a tow ban remains in effect Sunday in Marathon County.

The Marathon County Sheriff’s Department issued a tow ban after snowy roads caused multiple crashes in the area. As of 12:17 p.m. on Sunday, the Marathon

A tow ban means vehicles that are stuck or involved in crashes won’t be towed unless it is necessary for public safety.

Hwy. 51 from Wausau to Tomahawk is snow covered and slippery, according to the DOT. As of 2 p..m., a portion of the southbound 51 is closed north of Merrill due to a crash.

There’s no word on injuries.
