A 61-year-old man is dead following a weekend snowmobile crash near Antigo, according to the Langlade County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded to the crash at around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, near Typner Lake Road in the town of Upham.

Police say the man was driving the snowmobile without a passenger when he crashed into a tree.

A man who was traveling with the victim on a separate sled tells Wausau Pilot & Review that he and several other riders tried to revive the man, but were unable to do so. EMTs arrived within about 20 minutes; their lifesaving efforts were also not successful and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of relatives.

This is the 18th recorded snowmobile death in Wisconsin to date in 2020, according to Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources records.
