MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A federal judge has sentenced a convicted felon to 30 months in prison for his role in a street fight in La Crosse last summer.

Federal prosecutors said in a statement Friday that 29-year-old Robert Powell was patronizing downtown bars in July when a fight broke out in the street. City surveillance cameras showed Powell pull a handgun from his waistband and fire into the air before fleeing.

Police recovered a .38-caliber shell casing and one .38-caliber round, prompting prosecutors to charge Powell for being a felon in possession of ammunition. Powell has two prior felony convictions, one for dealing marijuana and one for possessing marijuana.

Powell pleaded guilty in October. U.S. District Judge James Peterson handed down the sentence on Thursday.
