Evictions and foreclosures are suspended in Wisconsin, following an executive order by Gov. Tony Evers, according to a news release.
Evers ordered Wisconsin Department of Health Services Secretary-designee Andrea Palm to issue the rule on Friday. The order can be found here.
The order prohibits landlords from evicting tenants for any reason unless failing to proceed with the eviction will result in an “imminent threat of serious physical harm to another person,” the release states.
Civil action to foreclose on real estate is also suspended for 60 days. Wisconsinites who are able to continue to meet their financial obligations are urged to do so.
The order does not in any way relieve a person’s obligation to pay their rent or mortgages, Evers said, calling evictions and foreclosures a “direct and serious threat” to the health and well-being of residents.
