WAUSAU — Marathon County Hunger Coalition, an initiative of United Way of Marathon County, continues to support rural schools during the coronavirus pandemic.

In early April, the coalition delivered more than $6,000 worth of food to six rural school districts, including Marathon, Edgar, Athens, Colby, Abbotsford and Spencer.

“The “Fill a Backpack – Fill a Belly program” provides weekend meal opportunities for 200 families,” said Richard Parks, district administrator for the Marathon School District. “The support of our local community and businesses together with the generosity of the Marathon County Hunger Coalition funds has made this possible. This is so needed and our families are grateful.”
