The driver of a small vehicle was injured early Thursday in a collision with a semi tractor trailer on the city’s east side.

The crash happened at about 2:20 a.m. on Townline Road near the railroad tracks at Northwestern Avenue in Wausau.

The injured person, who was extricated from the vehicle, was unresponsive when crews arrived on the scene, but there is no further word on the severity of injuries involved.

Initial scanner reports suggest the smaller vehicle crashed into the semi’s saddle tank, resulting in a significant diesel fuel spill.

The Wausau Fire Department and Wausau Police Department responded to the crash.

No additional information was immediately available Thursday morning.
