The victim in a weekend drowning in Lincoln County has been identified as 18-year-old Andrew J. Adams, of Champaign, Ill., police say.

Police were notified at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday of a missing boater on lake Alice in the town of King, east of Tomahawk. The caller advised that two people had been in a canoe that capsized, police said.

One person in the canoe made it to shore but Adams could not be located.

Dive teams from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, Tomahawk Fire and Oneida County spearheaded the search. Divers located Adams from Lake Alice at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Adams was pronounced dead at the scene by Lincoln County Coroner Paul Proulx.

A preliminary investigation shows Adams died of accidental drowning with no other known factors, officials said.

In addition to the dive teams, Tomahawk EMS, Newbold Fire Department, Wisconsin DNR and the Lincoln County Coroner’s office assisted.
