Why did you choose UW-Stevens Point at Wausau?
I came to this campus because it was close to home, which helped make the transition into college life go smoothly. The cost was very affordable, too, which was appealing.
What surprised you the most about the university when you arrived on campus?
When I arrived at UW-Stevens Point at Wausau, unlike larger campuses, I never a had a feeling of distance or that I was one of many anonymous students. Everyone here works together like clockwork to enrich the lives of students. I also was pleasantly surprised to see professors taking interest in and attending campus events.
How or when did you discover your purpose? How did UW-Stevens Point at Wausau faculty/staff help?
I’ve known since my late high school years that I would be a teacher. It’s in my blood and personality. The UW-Stevens Point at Wausau family expressed interest in my educational and career goals and has encouraged me every step of the way.
Why did you choose your program/major?
I’ve always been passionate about art and enjoy the different materials and the creative ways we can express ourselves while having fun. I care for children and students of all ages and want them all to have a better life. My past art teachers have made a large impact on my life, and I would love to do the same for future students.
Who has been your favorite professor or staff member?
I am so grateful for the many people who have been incredibly helpful during my educational journey at UW-Stevens Point at Wausau. However, special thanks go to Brian Kalish (student life and events coordinator), Janette Baumann (administrative specialist), Peter Dodson (associate lecturer – math), Ingrid Clark-Zavodoski (Writing Center coordinator and associate lecturer – English) and Teri Lemirand (associate lecturer – communication) for the guidance and support they have given along the way.
In addition to being a college student, what takes up your free time?
I am actively involved in 4-H as a youth director and assist in leading activities at the Lincoln County Fair. I also volunteer at St. Stephens UCC and sing in the choir, which I find relaxing and a great way to stay connected to my community. I’ve played the clarinet since sixth grade and participate in the Merrill City Band and in the university’s concert band.
What do you plan to do after attending UW-Stevens Point at Wausau?
After spring 2020 semester I will be attending UW-Stout to earn my bachelor’s degree. I also would like to attend graduate school, focusing on animation in hopes of someday working for Walt Disney Animation Studios.
To make the most of their college experience, what advice would you have for incoming students?
Take part in all opportunities that arise. Be the one to make the most of your time while at college. Join a student club or participate in a campus event or activity. UW-Stevens Point at Wausau is special because everyone has an equal opportunity to take part in something outside of the classroom. Push the boundaries of your comfort zone and try something new. Starting college is like starting fresh, so choose what you want to do and who you want to be.
