Village of Weston President Wally Sparks is stepping down from his position to move to South Carolina, effective July 16.

Sparks announced his departure Monday to the village board during the group’s regular meeting.

After 33 years in law enforcement, Sparks retired in 2018 as Everest Metro Police Chief, and was elected to the village board a short time later. In 2019, he defeated Loren White and was elected village president, succeeding Barbara Ermeling.

Sparks told board members that he has sold his house and will move in July to be closer to family members.

The board can either appoint a new president or hold a special election to replace Sparks. The matter will be on the July 6 agenda for consideration.
