Wausau Pilot & Review

GREEN BAY – The Wausau West boys basketball team held off a late run from Green Bay East to win a nonconference game 76-74 on Monday night at East High School.

West led 34-27 at halftime and were able to hold on at the end despite a 42-point effort from East’s Ryan Sweeney.

Cole Nelson made four 3-pointers and scored 26 points to lead the way for the Warriors, who are now 10-9 this season. Jack Berens added 18 points, Bennett Teske chipped in 11 points, and Jaraul Walker had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds for West.

“We found a way to close it out,” West coach Nate Lemmens said. “They kept coming back and we made plays when we needed to.”

Wausau West hosts Appleton West for another nonconference game on Tuesday. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
