Wausau Pilot & Review

STEVENS POINT – The Stevens Point boys basketball team picked up a needed win on Tuesday night as it downed Wausau West 58-40 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference contest at Stevens Point Area Senior High.

The Panthers outscored West 33-18 in the second half to pull away after leading by three at halftime.

The win keeps Stevens Point alive in the Wisconsin Valley Conference championship chase as it improves to 13-8 overall and 9-2 in the conference. Marshfield stands at 10-0 and will visit SPASH on Friday with the Panthers needing a win in their Valley finale to stay mathematically alive for a share of the title.

Nate Streveler scored 23 points, James Jacobs added 14 and Baraka Makalin chipped in 11 for the Panthers.

Jack Berens led West (11-11, 4-6 WVC) with 12 points, and Brett Butalla added eight in the loss.

Wausau West hosts Wisconsin Rapids on Friday.
