EAU CLAIRE – D.C. Everest and Wausau West will each send three wrestlers to the state meet after earning top-two finishes at the WIAA Division 1 individual wrestling sectional Saturday at Eau Claire North High School.

The top two finishers in each weight class qualify for the 2022 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament, which will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Wausau West’s Joseph Berens (39-3) won the sectional title at 195 pounds defeating Ryan Rambo of Hudson in the final, 8-6.

Joining Berens at state for the Warriors will be Gabriel Ramos and Reed Napiwocki.

Ramos (37-4) finished second at 145 pounds, losing in the finals to Kale Roth of Stevens Point, 7-3.

Napiwocki (33-10) had to come back through the consolation bracket to finish second. After losing in the semifinals, Napiwocki won a third-place match and defeated Conner Seavers of Stevens Point by pin in 1:04 in a second-place wrestleback.

D.C. Everest had three second-place finishers earn berths at the state meet.

Easton Cooper (26-5) lost by injury default in the 120-pound finals to Marshfield’s Caleb Dennee; Deakin Trotzer (9-5) earned a spot at 126 by winning a second-place wrestleback over David Hughes of Chippewa Falls, 8-4; and Blake Heal (29-7) took second at 138, losing in the championship match to Marshfield’s Hoyt Blaskowski, 7-1.
