WAUSAU – The Newman Catholic boys soccer team won its season opener on Monday, defeating Stevens Point Pacelli 2-1 in a Central Wisconsin Conference contest.
Noah Martin headed in a corner kick from Lucas Erdman, and Evan Zubke scored off an assist from Nolyn Lindner for Newman’s two scores.
Newman outshot Pacelli 12-6, with Cardinals’ goalie Owen Reeves recording five saves.
Newman hosts Tri-County on Thursday.
