WAUSAU – The Newman Catholic girls basketball team used a dominant second half to pull past Rib lake 59-46 in a Marawood Conference crossover game Thursday night at Newman Catholic High School.

The Cardinals led 24-22 at halftime before outscoring Rib Lake by 11 in the second half to earn the victory and improve to 5-14 overall and 4-9 in the Marawood South.

Ashley Jankowski scored 18 points, Lily Shields added 15, and Evie Bates and Aubrey Puent each kicked in 10 in the win for Newman.

Josie Scheithauer led Rib Lake (7-11, 4-8 Marawood North) with 14 points.

Newman Catholic returns to action Tuesday at home against Stratford.
