The Wausau Early Birds and Wausau Noon Rotary clubs will host the Love is International student weekend Feb. 9, 10 and 11 at the Wausau School Forest.

The event is an opportunity for exchange students to get to know one another in a fun, social setting. Most other conferences they attend are working sessions.

It’s also an opportunity for local Rotary families to share in a cultural exchange with students from around the world.

Love is International weekend began in 1995.

The Wausau Early Birds and Wausau Noon Rotary clubs are members of the Rotary International District 6220, which includes clubs in Waupaca, Stevens Point, Plover, Green Bay and Door County, as well as clubs in Houghton and Marquette, Michigan.

Students must be 17, or turn 17, within 90 days of their arrival in the United States. They are hosted by local families selected by local Rotary clubs and approved by Rotary International. They are registered to attend local high schools and are expected to maintain high academic standards, while participating in extracurricular activities of their choosing.

Many students arrive in August and return to their home countries by July 31.  During the year of their exchange, students are required to attend several conferences in which they learn about each others’ cultures and perform various service projects.

Thirteen students will attend this year’s event.
