WAUSAU – The Wausau East girls basketball team came up a bucket short in a valiant comeback attempt in the second half and dropped a 56-54 decision to Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday night at East High School.

Wisconsin Rapids pulled out to a 31-21 lead by halftime and the Lumberjacks fought back but came up two points short in losing their third game in a row.

Claire Coushman scored 15 points, Tally Schlindwein added 11 and Geneva Michlig 10 for Wausau East, which falls to 6-14 overall and 2-8 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference this season.

Kristin Radtke went 8-for-8 at the free throw line and finished with a game-high 18 points for Wisconsin Rapids (7-14, 5-5 WVC).

Wausau East hosts Wausau West on Friday for its final regular-season home game of the season.
