WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wausau East boys basketball team held off a late run from Wisconsin Rapids and defeated the Raiders 76-70 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference contest Thursday at Lincoln High School.

The Lumberjacks led 35-23 at halftime before Wisconsin Rapids made it interesting, scoring 47 points in the second half, but East was able to finish off the win as it made 19 of 32 free throws.

Caden Werth had 21 points, and Charlie Cayley (19 points, 13 rebounds) and Jesse Napgezek (16 points, 10 rebounds) both had double-doubles for the Lumberjacks (15-5, 7-3 WVC).

Wisconsin Rapids (6-14, 2-7 WVC) made 11 3-pointers in the loss.

Wausau East hosts rival Wausau West on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
