MENOMONIE – The D.C. Everest wrestling team lost a WIAA Division 1 team wrestling sectional semifinal match to Menomonie 38-25 on Tuesday at Menomonie High School.

Menomonie defeated Hudson 43-24 in the championship match to qualify for its first-ever state team tournament. The 2024 WIAA State Team Wrestling Tournament will be held March 1-2 at the UW Fieldhouse in Madison.

Oscar Latendresse started off the match with a 6-4 win at 285 pounds for D.C. Everest, but Menomonie responded with three-straight pins to take control.

Easton Cooper added a 9-2 win at 126 pounds for the Evergreens, Josh Danens had a pin at 138 and Deakin Trotzer won 6-2 at 144, but D.C. Everest could never grab the lead.

Blake Bangtson added a major decision at 157 and James DuBuhr won the final match by forfeit at 215 for D.C. Everest.

Everest will have seven wrestlers take part in a Division 1 individual sectional on Saturday at Marshfield. The top two finishers in each weight class advance to next week’s WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison.
