STEVENS POINT – Delve into the night sky and jam out to classic rock music light shows this March at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Allen F. Blocher Planetarium.

Planetarium and laser musical light shows will be offered on select Fridays through Sundays of March 3-30. Planetarium shows are free and open to the public, but donations are appreciated and help continue these programs. Tickets for the laser light shows are $7 for adults, $6 for students and $5 for UWSP students with a student ID. Tickets are available for purchase at the door beginning at 6:30 p.m. and are valid for that day only.

March’s shows include:

·         March 3 – 2 p.m. “From Earth to the Universe” –  Learn about the history of celestial discovery, from theories about the night sky by ancient Greek astronomers to today’s grandest telescopes.

·         March 3 – 3:30 p.m. “Planets, A Journey Through the Solar System” – Dive through our solar system from a first-person view while hearing the history of Earth and our neighboring planets.

·         March 10 – 2 p.m. “Making a Star and Its Entourage” – Trace the evolution of humankind’s long journey to understand the universe.

·         March 29 – 7, 8, 9 and 10 p.m. “Laser Zeppelin” – musical laser light show

·         March 30 – 7, 8, 9 and 10 p.m. “Laser Vinyl: Classic Rock with Kiss, Queen, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Van Halen, Pink Floyd and more” – musical laser light show

Planetarium seating is first come, first served for up to 55 people. Groups of eight or more can schedule a special showing of any planetarium program by calling 715-346-2208 or completing an online request form. There is a cost for these requests.

The planetarium is on the second floor of the UW-Stevens Point Science Building, 2001 Fourth Ave., Stevens Point. Parking is available in Lot D behind the building and is free in all university lots after 7 p.m. and on weekends.

Stargazing sessions are available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights, weather dependent, either in the Arthur J. Pejsa Observatory or on Colman field, on the corner of Maria and Reserve Streets. Viewings will be held only if the skies are clear and the temperature is above 15 degrees Fahrenheit.
