A Village of Kronenwetter trustee who was considered a candidate for the interim village administrator position is again behind bars after his arrest on an outstanding warrant in a case involving child support, according to Marathon County records.

Sean Dumais, 47, is being held in the Marathon County Jail and is awaiting transport to Washington County. His bond amount is $5,270 cash, jail records show.

The arrest comes less than four months after a contempt hearing in which Dumais was found in contempt of court for his “willful failure to make regular payments as ordered, and failure to seek work.” A judge ordered Dumais to spend 60 days in the Washington County Jail, but stayed the finding for 18 months to allow Dumais to purge the contempt charge by making full, regular and timely payments of child support and arrears as ordered, court records show. Child support payments at that time were increased to $200 per month.

But in January, a motion for lifting the stay was granted and on Feb. 1, Circuit Judge Michael Kenitz issued a commitment order for Dumais.

Court records show Dumais, who was once honored by the Green Bay Packers for his commitment to the community, has long been delinquent in his responsibility to support his children.

In January 2021, Dumais was also found in contempt of court for his willful failure to make regular payments. He was ordered to serve 30 days in the Washington County Jail.

In this instance, Dumais can purge the contempt and be released from jail by making a lump sum payment of $5,000, including all costs and fees due at the time of the affidavit’s filing.

Child support agencies and custodial parties can file court actions against parents who fail to meet their child support obligations, which can result in contempt or criminal nonsupport charges. In Wisconsin, if the court finds that the parent could have paid child support but did not, the court can find the parent who owes support in contempt of court.

In the Feb. 20 primary election, Dumais finished sixth in a nine-person race to fill open seats on the Kronenwetter Village Board. His name will appear on the ballot for the April 2 election, along with Aaron Myszka, Scott Dauel, Ryan Leff, Cindy Lee Buchkowski-Hoffman and Ken Charneski.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Kronenwetter trustees in 2023 had considered offering an interim contract to Dumais in the search for a new Kronenwetter Administrator, but he withdrew his name from consideration.
