Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Gov. Tony Evers recently signed a $8.6 million contract to improve Highway 13, between Highway 98 in the village of Spencer and Highway N in the city of Colby, Marathon County, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced today. Work is scheduled to begin in spring of 2024.

Work includes completing concrete joint repairs and replacements, replacing the asphalt shoulders, replacing guardrail, inlet and manhole repairs as needed, new pavement markings and replacing curb ramps that are not compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act standards. Michels Road and Stone will be the prime contractor for the project.

Construction on Highway 13 will unfold in stages with impacts to traffic. Motorists can expect single lane closures, flagging operations and full road closures with posted detour routes during construction. When necessary, posted detour routes will use highways 97, 153 and 29. Temporary pedestrian accommodations will be provided during removal and replacement of the existing sidewalk.

Construction is scheduled for completion by fall 2024. The schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress.
