Terry A. Jacobson

Terry Allen Jacobson, “Jake”, died peacefully at home in Wausau, Wisconsin, on March 8, 2024.
Born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, on May 14, 1943, to the late Orlando “Red” and Eunice (Zitzner)Jacobson.
A passionate sales professional in the clothing industry, radio advertising and auto sales and brought joy and laughter and a joke, both good and bad to those around him.

He was known for his love of golfing, racquetball, and found peace and contentment exploring the shores of Lake Superior with his long-time partner MaryPat LaMarche. Making work both enjoyable and fun was always what Jake strived for.  Bartending at the Hiawatha was often a highlight of his week, and we all know he was the life of the bar.
Terry will be deeply missed by MaryPat; his children Tracy (David)  Laird, Scott (Rachel) Jacobson, and Kelsey (Erik) Isakson .  He is further survived by his 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. His sister, Shelby, proceeded him in death.

There will be a memorial gathering held at Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams, St., on Thursday, March 14 from 1-2 pm, followed by Jake’s memorial service at 2 pm.

Jake was truly a ray of sunshine to all who knew and loved him.

A special thank you to Aspirus Hospice at Home for their help and care, and especially, Jake’s nurse Taylor Johnson, who through this very difficult journey, guided the way with skill, compassion, and humor.

May Terry’s memory bring a smile to the faces of all those who knew and loved him.

Rita M. Dachauer

Rita Marie Dachauer 84, peacefully left for Heaven at 3:00 am on Saturday March 9th, 2024 at her home in Athens, Wisconsin

Rita was born on February 20th, 1940 in Norfolk, VA  the second and youngest child of Jacob & Annette Brooks. Her father was in the Navy, and in her early childhood the family settled in San Francisco, CA. Rita grew up with a strong admiration for her brother, Arthur Brooks, who was 10 years older than her. She always deeply enjoyed nature and loved animals and reading books.

In October of 1959, she married John Dachauer, also of San Francisco, CA. They had 4 children together, and in 1978 the family moved from California to Bemidji, MN – which was the area of her mother’s family, and where her mother grew up. A few years after moving to Minnesota, John & Rita divorced; John moved back to California and Rita moved to Pennsylvania. Twenty years later, they both moved back to Bemidji, MN and were re-married to each other, to the great joy of their children and grandchildren. In 2005 they moved to Pennsylvania to be closer to two of their children & grandchildren. Then in 2007, they settled in Wausau, Wisconsin where they made their home together until John passed away in October of 2008. Soon after his passing, Rita moved to the countryside in Athens, WI, where she made her home.

She loved visits from family and friends, enjoying the beautiful Wisconsin sunsets and the changing seasons, feeding her wild birds, playing piano, and reading – especially the Bible. Her faith in Jesus strengthened and carried her through the difficult years of dealing with chronic pain and end-stage COPD, and her relationship with Lord deepened as she spent more and more time with Him. She loved sharing her faith and things God was showing her through His word and other books she would read, and messages she would listen to. A book called “Little Pillows and Morning Bells” by Frances Ridley Havergal, was one of her favorites – the pages are very well worn; she also loved the books written by Corrie Ten Boom, especially “The Hiding Place”.

Rita will always be greatly loved and missed by her children: Lisa (Victor) Lottice; Julie (Nicholas) Brown; David (Colleen) Dachauer; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and special friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob & Annette Brooks; brother, Arthur Brooks; husband, John Dachauer; and daughter, Gina Foore.

At Rita’s request, there will be no funeral. A private family burial will take place, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, John Dachauer, at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Maine, WI.

The morning before Rita passed, she told us this would be her last day here – she was going to Heaven. She said the last few days her husband, John, was visiting her, and wanting her to come with him. She said she kept telling him she couldn’t come yet – she was busy! Her health declined very rapidly over the course of the next couple days, and the day before her departure she called friends and family, telling them this would be her last day here, that she was going home. She kept telling us she had to go soon, and she wasn’t going to be here tomorrow. The night before she left, she was telling us with bright eyes and smiles that this was the best day of her whole life – she was going home to Heaven! At 3 am on Saturday March 9th 2024, she went to be with the Lord.

Rev. Dr. Dennis W. Pegorsch

Rev. Dr. Dennis W. Pegorsch was reunited with his wife, Grace, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. He was born on December 13, 1941 in Shawano, WI, the son of William and Myrtle (Haeuser) Pegorsch. The first 4 ½ years of his life he lived in Bonduel and Shawano. His family then moved to Manawa, where he grew up attending St. Paul Lutheran School. After 8th grade, he attended high school at Concordia College in Milwaukee, living in the dorms and returning home for the summer months. Dennis had many cherished memories of his grandparents, especially spending summers with them at their cottage on Shawano Lake. He was blessed with loving parents and his three younger brothers, Lee, Keith, and Kent. His parents had a shoe store and shoe repair business for almost 40 years in Manawa before they retired. On June 28, 1969, he married Grace Droegemueller at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI. They were married for 49 years and 5 months before Grace passed away on January 29, 2019. She was truly the love of his life and his best friend.

Dennis believed in a lifelong pursuit of education and learning. He attended Concordia College in Milwaukee from 1959-1961 and Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, IN, from 1961-1963. He received his BA at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO from 1963-1967. During this time, he also worked at the children’s home in St. Louis where he had fond memories of working with the youth there. His Bachelor of Theology and Masters of Divinity, along with one year of vicarage, was completed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ridgewood, NJ. It is in Ridgewood that he first met Grace at a dinner party, but they later found each other again in Milwaukee. Dennis was ordained to the ministry of Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in 1967. He further received his Masters in Social Work at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee in 1972. Finally, Dennis obtained his Doctor of Ministry in 1994 with Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.

Dennis first served at St. Peter-Immanuel in Milwaukee, WI where he had his ministry from 1967-1974. Dennis was then called to St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth, WI where he served from 1974-1996. This was the congregation and school where he raised his four children. Dennis always cherished the memories and personal connections that he made there. He was then called to Trinity Lutheran Church in Wausau, WI in 1996 until he recently retired in January of 2024. The people at Trinity were very dear to his heart. Over the years, he served on many boards and committees throughout the Plymouth area and later on in the Wausau area. He always believed in Christian education and only wanted to serve in churches that also had a Christian day school. Dennis’ love for all ages was evident. He meaningfully connected with the children and youth and loved to do the children’s talks (giving small trinkets to remember his message) during the Sunday services. Dennis’ dedication and love for the older adult ministry and the Blind Outreach was a passion of his as well.

Throughout his ministry, Dennis touched so many lives. He performed countless baptisms, weddings, and funerals. Dennis was unconditional in his love and service to others as his compassion, kindness, and genuine concern for others was apparent in all of his interactions.

Dennis had many passions including gardening, camping, and reading. He would spend endless hours tending to his garden and his beautiful yard. Dennis and Grace enjoyed their camping trips throughout the United States and also had the opportunity to travel internationally. Family gatherings, vacations, and holidays with his children and grandchildren were some of Dennis’ greatest joys.

Dennis is survived by his four children: David (Tina) in Mequon, WI, twin daughters, Christine Pegorsch in Palm Bay, FL and Kim (Bill) Weissenberg in Deerfield, IL, and youngest son Jeffrey (Kathryn) Pegorsch in Naperville, IL. Seven grandchildren: Marissa and Ryan Pegorsch, Samantha and Makayla Weissenberg, and Evan, Justin, and Brynlee Pegorsch. Two brothers: Lee Pegorsch in Boulder, CO and Kent Pegorsch in Waupaca, WI, along with nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Keith.

Dennis had an undeniable faith in God as he fully committed his life to his calling of being a Lutheran minister. He believed that God places us into relationships, both our individual families, but also our church families. Dennis would always say, it is important to be a blessing to one another. His strong faith in the Lord was evident in all he did and how he lived each and every day of his life. Dennis would often cite the words of Psalm 118: 24, “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Dennis had such a positive outlook on life and truly lived a life of joy. His smile, laughter, and warmth in his eyes will never be forgotten, remaining forever with each one of us who were blessed to know him.

A Celebration of New Life for Rev. Dr. Dennis W. Pegorsch will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 501 Stewart Avenue in Wausau with the Rev. James Mayland officiating. Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church from 9:30 am to the time of service. She was born October 23, 1934, in Wausau, daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Sniegoski) Jakubowski.  Marge married Eugene “Pete” Peterson on August 27, 1994 in a beautiful backyard ceremony.

Marge’s life revolved around raising her children and caring for her home. She eventually returned to the work force to continue to provide for her family.  Marge worked at Wausau Insurance until retirement.  In retirement, outside of spending time with family, she was happiest in her yard, tending her flowers or enjoying a cup of coffee on her deck while listening to a Brewers game.

Marge and Pete enjoyed many years of couples bowling, bicycling around town, and sitting under the grand white pines of Marathon Park.  She also enjoyed taking long walks with friends around Rib Mountain, playing scrabble and doing crossword puzzles.  Marge was a devout Catholic her entire life and an active and valued member of Holy Name Catholic Church.  Through many of life’s challenges, her faith never wavered.

Theodore M Meier, Jr.

Theodore M Meier, Jr, 77 Athens, entered eternal life on Friday March 8, 2024 at The Hospice House, Wausau after a 17-year battle with Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.

Funeral services for Theodore will be Sunday, March 17, 2024 at 2:00p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens.  Rev. Mark Schwalenberg will officiate.  Burial will be in the Milan cemetery following the services.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 5-8p.m and again on Sunday from 1p.m until the time of service all at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens.  Serving as pallbearers are Ryan and Sawyer Thurs, Carson Kline, Mike Hein, Dennis Zocher and Mike Tishendorf.

Theodore was born on January 15, 1947, the son of the late Theodore and Elsie (Stark) Meier.  On July 19, 1969, he and the former Beverly A. Westphal were united in marriage.

After high school Theodore farmed 450 acres with his parents and continued to do so while they established what is today known as Meier Forest Products Inc.  Theodore along with his father the late Theodore Sr and brother Matthew started a hardwood sawmill in 1974.  At the time, they were not aware of the technical aspects of operating a sawmill and had much learning to do.  Over the years the business continued to grow and little did they know how successful it would become.  Theodore’s legacy continued when his son Shannon replaced him upon his “retirement” at the sawmill.  However, Theodore never really did retire and the sawmill remained a large part of his life in his later years.

Theodore enjoyed many Sunday drives looking at standing timber.  The sawmill was his passion.  He was an avid Sheepshead player, playing cards for years on Sunday nights at The Swamp and Friday afternoons and Saturdays at Burger’s Bar.   More recently, you would find him Monday nights at Landmark where he was always ready to play the next hand.   Neighbors would meet him often on the road as he drove the countryside checking out how the farmers’ crops were doing.

In Theodore’s healthier years, he enjoyed traveling and one of his favorite places to go was Jamaica. He also enjoyed going to Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Alaska, and other states across the U.S.  Many trips were taken to Milwaukee with his family to watch the Brewers play.  The gun deer season was always a time he looked forward to, hunting the area with the neighborhood hunting crew.  He and his late wife Beverly enjoyed many happy road trips together on their Goldwing trike.

Family was very important to Theodore. He taught his children hard work and always encouraged them to do their best.  He was a kind, caring and compassionate man who did everything for his children and grandchildren.  He enjoyed spending quality family time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  He always welcomed visitors to his home and his eyes would light up when people would stop to visit.

Theodore will be dearly missed by his daughter Patricia (Todd) Thurs of Athens, son Shannon (Cecile) Meier of Edgar; five grandchildren, Autumn (Mike) Ellenbecker of Edgar, Ryan Thurs of Athens, Sawyer Thurs of Marathon, Carson Kline of Edgar and Vienna Meier of Edgar; and three great grandchildren, Emersyn, Brecken and Rowyn Ellenbecker of Edgar.  Theodore is further survived by his life long business partner and brother Matthew (Beverly J.) Meier of Edgar; sister Susan (Richard) Frahm of Wausau and sister-in-law Carol Klimpke of Athens.  He is further survived by nieces and nephews.

Theodore is preceded in death by his loving wife Beverly A. Meier and his daughter Pamela Meier.
