A 34-year-old Marshfield man is facing more than 100 years in prison if he is convicted of repeatedly assaulting a young girl, beginning when she was just 7 years old.

Kurtis N. Holman was charged March 13 with repeated sexual assault of the same child, first-degree sexual assault, causing a child younger than 13 to view a sex act and exposing genitals to a child. At an initial appearance March 14, he was ordered held on a $10,000 cash bond.

The alleged assaults happened over a period of years beginning in 2018. The girl told police Holman also forced her to take a “morning after” contraceptive on several occasions after she was old enough to become pregnant. Investigators then obtained video of Holman allegedly buying the emergency contraceptive in Stratford at a time that matched the girl’s description of events, according to court documents.

The girl, who is not related to Holman, came forward after disclosing the alleged abuse to a friend.

The Stratford Police Department and Marathon County Sheriff’s Department investigated the reports and the girl was interviewed by a forensic specialist at the Child Advocacy Center in Wausau.

Holman, who remains behind bars as of Friday morning, has an indigency hearing on March 18 and a preliminary hearing set for March 20. He has no prior criminal history in Wisconsin, according to online court records.

You are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
