Donald A. Prochnow

Donald A. Prochnow, 89, of Wausau, peacefully passed away on March 14, 2024, at Mountain Terrace, with his loving family at his side.

Don was born May 9, 1934, in Marathon County, to the late Arthur and Ella (Bahr) Prochnow. He worked as a farmer and at a tire shop and in construction for many years before his retirement. Don married Carol Kolbe on December 11, 1954, in the Town of Stettin. She survives him.

Don enjoyed working and gardening. He was dedicated to his faith, family and community. A devoted member of the church choir and a Sunday School Teacher, Don’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He had a generous spirit, regularly donating blood for over 50 years, embodying his selflessness and compassion. Don cherished spending time with his family, friends, and neighbors. He was an avid Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewer fan. Don will be missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.

Don is survived by his wife, Carol Prochnow; and children, Roger (Helen) Prochnow of Wausau and Ruthann (Steven) Dahlke of Marathon; grandchildren, Kevin, Joshua (Jessica), Scott (Elizabeth), Benjamin (Lauren), Rebecca, and Christopher; 8 great granddaughters; and 1 great grandson. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, many neighbors and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Alfred and Franklin Prochnow.

A funeral service for Don will be held Friday, March 22, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 5304 North 44th Avenue, Village of Maine, with Rev. Maggie Westaby officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am at the church and continuing until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow at Rib View Cemetery, Town of Stettin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.


Phyllis S. Peterson

Phyllis S. Peterson, 80, of Wausau, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, with family by her side.

Phyllis Susan Peterson, born on November 2, 1943, in Chicago, IL, passed away on March 12, 2024, in Wausau, WI. She peacefully departed through natural causes. Phyllis worked diligently throughout her life, from her early years at the old Wausau hospital to her later roles at prestigious establishments such as The Wausau Club, The Mint, and the Wausau Center mall as a dedicated cleaner and dishwasher. She also ventured into additional opportunities, including work at Peking.

Phyllis eventually found love and companionship with Robert Peterson, and they exchanged their vows on February 24, 1973. In her leisure moments, she found solace and joy in embroidery when time allowed, as well as relishing the camaraderie of socializing at local bars.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Lisa Peterson; sibling, Vern (Dawn) Hardell; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Agnes Hardell; husband, Robert Peterson; siblings, Ronald Hardell, and Elaine Hardell.

A funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at 11:00 am, at St. Paul United Church of Christ. A visitation will run from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Helke Funeral Home on Monday, March 18, 2024, with a second visitation to take place at church the following day, from 10:00 am until the time of services. A burial at Pinegrove Cemetery will follow services.

Phyllis’ family would like to extend a special thank you to the Wausau Fire Department and the Wausau PD for all the help and support they offered Phyllis through the years, as well as Dr. Jared Thomas who has taken care of Phyllis for many years.


Norma Crosby

Norma Crosby, age 74, passed away on March 10, 2024 at Oak Heights Assisted Living in Kronenwetter, under the comfort and care of Interim Healthcare Hospice Services.

Norma was born in Juneau, Alaska and was the daughter of Hartley and Jean (Eby) Crosby. She married Gary Marten, and together they had 2 sons, William and Scott. She worked much of her life in the DC Everest School District, as well as Gordon Aluminum and WPS Insurance. She retired from WPS Insurance in 2013 so she could dedicate much of her time with her granddaughter, Amelia. She would drop everything, at any moment, for the chance to spoil that little girl.

She is survived by her son, Scott (Angel) Marten of Schofield; sister Linda Crosby, Oakland, OR; grandchildren, Brady, Amelia, Caridad, Tyler-Lee, and Ashley.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son, William; and her sister, Sharon Deja.

A Celebration of Norma’s life will take place on Friday, March 29, 2024 from 11 am-1 pm, at John J. Buettgen Funeral Home, 948 Grand Ave, in Schofield. Lunch will be provided during the Celebration of Life.
