Wausau Pilot & Review

A Wausau firefighter was injured Tuesday after responding to a firefighter at a west side church, officials said Wednesday.

The blaze was reported at about 4 p.m. March 19 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1101 Elm St., in Wausau. Multiple units responded, along with the Wausau Police Department. Immediate medical attention was provided to the firefighter, who was transported by ambulance to a hospital.

“We are relieved to report that the firefighter is expected to recover from their injuries,” said Wausau Fire Chief Jeremy Kopp. “Our thoughts are with them and their family during this time.”

Fire crews extinguished the fire, which was confined to the attic space of the structure, preventing further damage.

“The Wausau Fire Department is immensely grateful for the overwhelming outpour of support from the community during this challenging time,” Kopp said. “The Wausau Fire Department remains steadfast in our mission to provide rapid, professional, and unwavering emergency services to safeguard and enhance our community.”
