Dear editor,

Two proposed amendments to the Wisconsin State Constitution affecting how elections are held will be on the April 2 Spring Election ballot. These amendments to the Wisconsin Constitution would hamper the voting process. You are urged to vote NO on both questions.

Question 1 would prohibit any level of government in the state from applying or accepting non-governmental funds or equipment for election administration.

This would limit support for our elections without any plan to make sure the critical funds and tools needed to run our elections smoothly, to train poll workers, and to educate voters are sufficient. Prohibiting grants to fund elections doesn’t improve election integrity, it endangers it, and ultimately places more burden on taxpayers.

Question 2 states that no one other than an election official authorized by law may help conduct any election in the state.

Elections are a lot of work. Clerks rely on an array of volunteers, community members, and outside experts to make sure our elections are run smoothly and the results are accurate. This proposed amendment would tie the hands of our election officials from getting the support they need to do the job required.

Your NO vote on these two questions is important.
