Ervin B. Huber

Ervin B. Huber, 95, of Wausau, passed away peacefully in the care of the wonderful staff at Primrose Retirement Community and St Croix Hospice on March 25, 2024.

 Ervin was born on May 15, 1928 in Wausau, son of the late Ervin and Theresa (Lilly) Huber. He was a graduate of Wausau East High School, later graduating from Wausau Vocational School. During summers of his youth, Erv often spent time fishing on the shores of the Peshtigo River where his Uncle Jack ran a private hunting lodge.

 Ervin was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1951-1955 during the Korean Conflict, notably this was the only time in his life he lived away from his beloved Wausau. He was stationed primarily in Morocco designing and building radio towers. During that time Erv had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and had many fond memories of his adventures. 

 Ervin worked most of his adult career in sales with Marmet Window Corporation traveling monthly to the East Coast including Boston, Chicago and New York developing window systems for large commercial buildings and high rises. He retired in 1990.

 In retirement Erv enjoyed golfing almost every day. He loved traveling with friends and also going to see his sister, Bettie in San Diego, stopping frequently in Las Vegas both coming and going. He was a member of Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church and American Legion Post 10.

 Ervin is survived by his sister, Bettie Cain of San Diego, nephew, Jeff Wendland of San Diego, nieces, Barbara (David) Snodgrass of San Diego and Judy (Bruce) Langhoff of Sun Prairie as well as several grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Vivian Hartkopf and Arlyle Huber, and nephew, Robert Hartkopf. Ervin also is survived by two very special friends, Debra Leitermann and Horst Stasiak.

 Erv always had a wonderful group of friends and associates that he’s known and shared good times with for many years! Everyone loved Erv and he will be dearly missed and never ever forgotten.

 A Happy Hour Celebrating Erv with friends and family will be held Thursday, April 18th from 4-6 at Char Grill (formally known as City Grill) where Erv spent many hours sipping a Miller High Life and chatting with old friends and making new ones. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau with Military Honors. Brainard Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.


Diane “Di” Felch

Diane was called home to glory on March 19th in Muskego, WI. She always led with love, kindness and optimism. She will be greatly missed.

Diane was born on November 20, 1945 and grew up in Wausau. She married James (“Jim” or “Moe”) Felch in 1968 and gained a whole lot of relatives. They lived in California for a bit, then moved back to Wausau, and had three kids. Diane worked as a lunch lady at Newman High School, and later retired after more than 20 years as the manager of the Holsum / Sara Lee bakery store on Schofield Avenue. She was widowed in 2009 and in 2019 she moved to the Milwaukee area to be near her kids and grandkids. 

Her hobbies included sewing, cooking / baking, playing word games (she was a Boggle shark), arts and crafts, and loving on her grandkids. She enjoyed trying new foods, traveling, spending time with her friends, Bible study and volunteering at church.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children Fred (Mary) Felch, Jill Felch, Beth (Ron) Felch-Starke; grandchildren Aurora (Zack) Pio, Abigail Felch, Addison Gillespie, and Alex Felch; and many beloved siblings, in-laws, nieces / nephews, and friends. 

Services will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church in Rothschild, WI on April 11, 2024. Visitation 1:00 pm, memorial service 3:00 pm. A reception will be held at Sam’s Pizza (her favorite) afterward. Committal will be Friday, April 12 at 10:30 am at Restlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Some advanced directives left by Diane- Please DO NOT wear uncomfortable clothes to the services; come as your everyday real self. In lieu of sending flowers, please make a donation to the Marathon County Humane Society or St. Therese Catholic Church.


Janice “Jan” Ziebell

Janice “Jan” Ziebell, 82, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024, with her loving family by her side.

Jan was born December 5, 1941, to parents Alwin and Adeline Ziebell. She worked for 43 years at First American Bank/M&I. In retirement, she enjoyed baking chocolate cakes in the bakery at 2510. Jan’s passion for crafting, volunteering, and church involvement was unwavering, as she spent countless hours sharing her talents and kindness. She particularly enjoyed embroidery and selling her dish towels at craft shows. Jan shared in her faith and was an active member at St. John Lutheran Church in the Town of Maine, where she served as financial secretary for 15 years. Grandma Jan was always there for everyone. She was her family’s biggest supporter from basketball games to volleyball games and dance recitals- never missing one. She helped in raising her grandchildren and now great grandchildren. Jan’s presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain in our hearts. 

Jan is survived by her pride and joy, daughter Jennifer (Clark) Bronsteatter; granddaughters Chelsi (Jake) Knoblock and Kaitlin (Nick) Goslin; great grandchildren Madilynn and Charlie Knoblock. 

She is further survived by sisters, Barbara (Darrell) Bahr and Louise (John) Harter; and brother Wayne (Jackie) Ziebell.

Funeral services will be at 10 am on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5304 North 44th Avenue, Wausau. Rev. Maggie Westaby will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9 am until the time of service. Following the service, Jan will be laid to rest in the church cemetery next to her mother and father.


Dorethy G. Porter

Dorethy Gene Porter, 97, of Wausau went to be with her heavenly father on April 1, 2024, at home with family by her side.

She was born at home on August 7, 1926, in Evergreen, Wisconsin, to the late David and Lucy Wickersheim.  Dorethy was the oldest of 12 children growing up on a dairy farm in the White Lake area.  She was the beloved mother of seven children, the grandmother of 26, the great grandmother of 44 and the great great grandmother of 1.  Dorethy was a business owner in Wausau and took great pride in her work.

She was revered by everyone who knew her.  She was respected and appreciated for her honesty, integrity, work ethic, good cooking and love for church and family.  Dorethy was a quiet person. Providing delicious meals for her family and for church events was her way of saying, “I love you.”  She enjoyed her many years of singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and driving the youth group to monthly youth events. Her home was always open to others.

Dorethy’s hobbies were gardening and canning in her younger years, as well as making baby quilts for her many grandchildren. Puzzles, walking, and old-time tv were her pastimes in her older years as well as reading Christian novels, listening to her favorite pastors on tv and listening to music. 

Dorethy’s devotion to Jesus Christ and her determination to have her children in church were her greatest priorities.  This was her greatest gift to her children who are all still followers of Christ.

Dorethy is survived by her children, Linda (Rene) McCullough, James (Kristine) Porter, Judy (Steven Tidwell) Porter, Marilyn (Thomas) Tidrick, David (Vicki) Porter, Rebecca (John) Porter; 25 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; siblings, Larry, Mary, Dawn, Patricia, Susan and Suzanne.

She is preceded in death by her husband Beecher; son, Michael; siblings, Adele, Carol, Loren, Donald and Patrick.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 12:00 pm, at Thrive Church in Wausau, with Pastor Dennis Romine officiating.  A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of services at the church.  A burial will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park at a later date.


Johanna I. Schultz

Johanna I. Schultz, 100, died Sunday, March 31, 2024 under the care of Interim Hospice at Rennes Health and Rehab, Weston.

She was born June 20, 1923, daughter of the late Julius and Ida (Buss) Ninnemann in the town of Wausau.  On January 10, 1942 she married Arnold Schubring and he preceded her in death on August 6, 1982.  On November 14, 1984 she married Leroy Schultz, and he preceded her in death on December 25, 1999.

Her past employment included Marathon Rubber Products and Wausau Colonial Manor.  She was a volunteer at the Talent Shop, which she enjoyed very much.  Johanna was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church and she volunteered there for various jobs.  She also enjoyed rug weaving, knitting, and counted cross stitch.

Survivors include her son, Harlan (Theresa) Schubring; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Schubring; grandsons, Kirt (Nikki) Schubring and Jason (Nicole) Schubring; great-grandchildren, Regan and Teilyn Schubring, Emmet and Grant Schubring.

Besides her parents, and husbands, Arnold and Leroy, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Schubring, daughter-in-law, JoAnne Schubring, granddaughter, Lori Jo Schubring, sisters, Ellora Storm, Elaine DeVriendt, Lois Narloch and brothers, Herbert, Merlin, Gilbert and Gerald Ninnemann.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church, Wausau.  Rev. Steven Gjerde will officiate.  Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.  Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at Zion Lutheran Church, Wausau.

Marge Ostrowski

Marge Ostrowski, Iola, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 27th, 2024, at the age of 91. She was born on January 22nd, 1933, the daughter of David and Lucy (Rybicki) Omernik.

Marge grew up in Rosholt and married Henry Ostrowski on June 10th, 1950, at St. Adalbert’s Church in Rosholt. Marge and Henry later moved their family to Milwaukee. In 1971, they purchased a farm in Amherst. Henry ran the farm and Marge worked at the Holiday Inn. They later bought Flambeau Tavern in Rosholt. Years later, they sold the bar and Marge worked at Amherst Family Foods. When Marge retired, they moved to Iola. Marge was proceeded in death by her husband, Henry on November 11th, 2003.

Marge enjoyed spending time with her family, especially cooking for her grandchildren, and had a devotion for animals. She loved walking and playing with her dogs. When it came time to move to The Nest/Willows, she was grateful for all the family and dogs that regularly came to spend time with her.

Marge will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Marge is survived by 4 children, Sandy (Dan) Yenter, Barb Ostrowski, Kenny Ostrowski, and Kathy (Randy) Budsberg. Marge leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and many more family members.

Marge is proceeded in death by her husband Henry Ostrowski; her parents David and Lucy Omernik; her two sons Richard (Bernie) Ostrowski and Allen Ostrowski; her sisters Mary (Verne) Schmidt, Vicki (Ralph) Tuskowski, and Sophie (Herny) Koziczkowski; her brother Joseph (Carolyn) Omernik; and many more family members who have passed.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Nest Senior Living/The Willows, Heartland Hospice, and Aspirus Iola Clinic for their wonderful care of Marge.

A private service will be held.

Waylon L. Newton

We are shocked and devastated by the sudden and unexpected loss of our perfect baby Waylon to SIDS. Waylon passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday March 28th. While we try to find peace that he is with Jesus his family here on earth is left broken hearted. He was the happiest , sweetest little boy parents could ask for. He brought smiles to everyone with his contagious laugh that would light up any room. Even though he was only 5 months old our lives have been forever changed for the better even with the little time we were able to get to know him. We were the luckiest family to have him in out lives even if only for such a short time.

He was proceeded in death by his great grandparents Bernadine Newton, Darrell and Geraldine Kinney, Papa (Reginald) Hromek, and Al Vehrs.

Waylon is survived by his parents- Josh and Bria Newton, Sister- Harper Newton, Brother- Jepson Newton. Grandparents – Vickie Vehrs, William and Cherie Vehrs, Carole and Terry Benzschawel. Great Grandparents -Thomas Newton, Nancy Hromek, And Lila Vehrs. Many Aunts, uncles and cousins.
