MOSINEE – Mosinee pushed across three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and defeated Wausau West 4-1 in a nonconference baseball game Friday at Mosinee High School.

Wausau West, playing its season-opener, scored first when Ryan Schindler drove in Timmy Gospodarek with two outs in the top of the fifth inning.

Mosinee tied the game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI groundout, then forged ahead in the bottom of the sixth.

Keagan Jirschele reached on an error, stole second and third, and scored on another West error. Cameron Ziebell added a sacrifice fly to plate another and Brady Lokken scored another run to push Mosinee’s lead to 4-1. West was sent down in order in the seventh.

Jirschele struck out 10 over 6 2/3 innings before leaving due to reaching the 100-pitch count, and Taylor Lemanski got the final out to finish off the victory for Mosinee (2-1).

Wausau West was held to three hits, all singles, in the loss.

Wausau West will host Wausau East on Tuesday in its Wisconsin Valley Conference and home opener.
