A 71-year-old man is dead after being trapped under a manure spreader at a farm in Taylor County, officials said.

Sheriff’s officials say they took a 911 call at about 1:45 p.m. Sunday reporting the accident, which happened hear Hwy. 73 in the town of Jump River. Rescue crews pulled the man from underneath the spreader, but he died at the scene.

Police have identified the victim as Myron Brooks, of Gilman.

Investigators say Brooks was pulling the spreader behind a tractor in a field while en route to assist a neighbor. When Brooks did not arrive as expected, the neighbor went to search for him and discovered Brooks unresponsive underneath the machine.

Tracks in the field show Brooks had turned the tractor around and then hit a power pole. Brooks appeared to have fallen from the tractor and was trapped. Investigators say Brooks likely suffered a medical emergency that caused him to lose control of the tractor.
