WAUSAU – (Updated, 2:26 p.m.) A high speed chase that involved multiple law enforcement agencies in the area is over, after the suspect crashed a vehicle near Maple Ridge Road in Kronenwetter.

Marathon County Sheriff’s officials were notified at 9:09 a.m. by the Langlade County Sheriff’s Office that a suspect wanted on unspecified charges was driving a vehicle on Highway 64 toward Lincoln County, according to a news release. The suspect, whose name and gender have not been released, entered Marathon County in the town of Texas.

Local deputies pursued the suspect, who led police on a chase through Brokaw and south on Highway 51 driving at speeds that topped 100 mph, according to dispatch reports. Police used stop sticks and barricaded several exit ramps in the pursuit, which lasted for more than an hour. At one point, the suspect crashed, but continued driving, witnesses said.

The Wisconsin State Patrol, along with officers from Wausau, Mosinee and Wausau assisted in the pursuit, which ended at 10:11 a.m., police said. A lone suspect is in custody and is expected to face multiple charges in Langlade County Circuit Court. Additional details have not yet been released.
