Police: Child on bike struck by cruiser

MERRILL — A 9-year-old child was released Sunday afternoon from Aspirus Wausau Hospital hours after being struck by a Merrill Police officer’s squad car, officials said.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m. Sunday, police said. The child was riding a bicycle when he was struck by the cruiser. The boy was treated for injuries police described as “non life threatening.”

The officer was not hurt.

The crash is being investigated by the Wisconsin State Patrol. No names have yet been released.
