Homeowners should be on the lookout for scammers posing as highway department workers in Lincoln County.
An 81-year-old woman reported she was contacted by someone who said he was from the Lincoln County Highway Department, offering to clear brush and trim branches at a rate of $2 per limb. The men worked for about an hour and tried to bill the woman $900, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.
The woman did not pay the entire bill, but did give the men $300, police said.
The men gave the victim a business care that said Reed Brothers with phone numbers of (715) 952-0077 and (618) 315-5007 and no address.
