Hundreds of people are expected to gather tonight to remember the late co-founder of North Central Wisconsin Donate Life during a 5K run walk held in his honor.

Ted’s Trek is an annual event held to remember the life of lung transplant recipient Ted Gerbig, who died in 2013. Gerbig received a lung transplant in 2003.

Runners and walkers will wear glowing necklaces, glasses, and jelly rings during the race, which begins at 8:30 p.m. at Dale’s Weston Lanes, 5902 Schofield Ave., Weston. The race is followed by an after party, which includes music by Brad Emanuel from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Following his transplant, Gerbig shared his story widely — from doctor’s offices, symposiums and conferences, to many media appearances on TV, newspapers, advertisements and a magazine article with Ted featured on the cover. He represented Wisconsin’s organ recipients with a rose in his name on the Donate Life float in the 2013 Rose Bowl Parade and was an active volunteer with UW Organ and Tissue Donation in the years before his death.

This is the third annual Ted’s Trek event, held in part to spread awareness about organ donation.
