Schulenburg Pool

WAUSAU — Attendance at Wausau pools rose by more than 50 percent in 2017, according to a city parks and recreation report.

The city’s three pools drew 25,363 visitors in 2017 compared to 16,851 last year, city officials said. The city spent about $9 million to renovate Wausau’s three neighborhood pools in a three-year span. The final pool to be renovated, Schulenberg Pool, opened in June.

Recreation Superintendent Karyn Powers presented the numbers to the city’s parks and recreation committee last month and said the numbers show strong commitment from the neighborhoods.

Swimming lessons also saw solid growth in 2017, Powers said.
