RHINELANDER – The father of a 20-month-old boy who died in April is facing criminal charges in connection with the death, according to a WJFW report.

Trung Tran, 40, of Rhinelander, was arrested on Tuesday in the death of Avery Edwards. He is expected to be charged today in Oneida County Circuit Court.

An autopsy showed the 20-month-old boy died of blunt force trauma to the head on April 14. Tran’s wife, Ellen Tran, 28, was watching the boy, and told police Avery fell in the shower. But doctors treating Edwards thought it looked more like a child abuse case, WJFW reports.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office is recommending charges against Trung Tran intentionally neglecting a chidl and physical abuse/failure to prevent bodily harm to a child. He’ll be in Oneida County Court on Wednesday afternoon.

Ellen Tran was arrested shortly after the boy’s death in mid-April and faces charges of first degree reckless homicide. Ellen Tran is Avery’s stepmother.

Ellen Tran is free on $50,000 cash bond. A bond determination on bond for Trung Tran will be made at Wednesday’s hearing.
