NEWS RELEASE — Aspirus Wausau Hospital has been named to the 2017 Becker’s Healthcare list of “100 hospitals and health systems with great heart programs.”

The hospitals named on the list are national leaders in cardiovascular health care. Many institutions pioneered groundbreaking procedures and remain on the forefront of heart care today. All have received recognition for top-notch health care.

“We are incredibly honored to be recognized by Becker’s Healthcare as one of the nation’s top 100 heart programs,” said Darrell Lentz, President of Aspirus Wausau Hospital. “To be the only hospital in North Central Wisconsin on the list is a great accomplishment. Recognitions such as this really validate our team’s focus on providing excellent, compassionate service to everyone who chooses Aspirus for heart care.”

To determine the list, Becker’s Healthcare team examined several reputable rankings and award agencies, including U.S. News & World Report rankings for cardiology and heart surgery; Truven Health Analytics’ cardiovascular hospital rankings, CareChex rankings for cardiac care, Blue Distinction Centers for cardiac care and Society of Thoracic Surgeons star rankings.

CareChex ranked Aspirus Wausau Hospital No. 8 in the nation and No. 1 in Wisconsin for medical excellence in major cardiac surgery.

“Our staff works incredibly hard and we are very grateful to have our work recognized in this way,” said German Larrain, MD, medical director of Aspirus Heart & Vascular. “A given community may have many hospitals, but only a few can provide better-than-expected outcomes for patient needs.”

Aspirus Heart & Vascular provides state-of-the-art cardiovascular services for the region. Aspirus is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for heart care and consistently ranked by national quality benchmarking organizations as a leader in clinical quality and patient safety.
