The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office says a 911 caller reported a man walking on a street in Odanah carrying a knife late Wednesday morning. Deputies responded, and one of the deputies fired shots that struck the man.

The man was taken to an Ashland hospital where he was pronounced dead. The deputy was not hurt.

The name of the man was not released. Authorities say it was an isolated incident and no other suspects are at large.
