The Wausau RiverWolves topped the Wisconsin Whalers from Oregon, Wis. on Friday night by a score of 7-3, thanks in part to a hat trick from Owen Routheut.

The Whalers coming into the game in third place in the Central Division.

Routheut, a native of Feversham, Ontario, was able to light the lamp three times for his first career hat trick with the RiverWolves. He scored one goal at the end of the second at the 12:52 mark and the other two both coming in the third period, less than 3 minutes apart.

Michael Alfonso got the scoring started for the RIverWovles in the first, and Austin Burgener also notched his first goal of the year in the first.

Defenseman Ben Brown also scored his first goal as a RiverWolf tonight. Connor Moore closed out the scoring with an empty netter, which capped off the 7-3 win.

Starting in goal Friday for Wausau was Jackson Fazendin, who was able to stop 36 shots against the Whalers, and netted his first career win in a RiverWolves uniform.

The Wausau RiverWolves continue their homestand Saturday as they take on the La Crosse Freeze, and then face Wisconsin Whalers again on Sunday at Marathon Park.
