Classic Cleaners in Wausau and Merrill is under new ownership, after the Gunderson Family Companies of Menasha acquired the stores last week.

According to a news release issued Monday, Gunderson Family Companies will continue offering dry cleaning, laundry and alterations services to Wausau area customers at Classic Cleaners locations on Stewart Avenue, Sixth Street and Schofield Avenue.

The Gunderson Family Companies owns 14 Gunderson Cleaners that offer dry cleaning, laundry and alterations services throughout the Fox River Valley, and six Tradition Cleaners locations in Wausau, Schofield, Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids and Marshfield.

The company plans to consolidate the Tradition and Classic Cleaners brands in the coming weeks in the Wausau area into the three Gunderson Cleaners locations.

“We are delighted to be able to continue serving Wausau area customers of both Classic Cleaners and Tradition Cleaners in Wausau,” said Greg Gunderson, general manager of Gunderson Cleaners and Tradition Cleaners. “We’re bringing several successful family-owned dry cleaning businesses together now as Gunderson Cleaners: a family tradition of classic cleaning.”

Gunderson Cleaners began operations 65 years ago.

“My grandfather, Doug, started the business and my father, Gary, our current president, has established Gunderson Cleaners as the leading dry cleaning operation in the Fox River Valley,” Greg Gunderson said. “My brother, Doug, and sister, Sara, also play key roles in our company. We’re definitely a family operation and all very much committed to providing our customers with the very best dry cleaning, laundry and alterations services available.”

The Wausau locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

Gunderson Cleaners will also offer free pick-up and delivery service at businesses and residences throughout the Wausau and Merrill area.

  1. Good luck Tim & Family. Sad to see another local Family Business sell to out of town ownership. Now Wausau will have no competition.
